Job Description

The Encyclopaedia Africana Project (EAP) Secretariat invites applications from suitably qualified, dynamic, and results-oriented individuals for the position of Research Officer.

The Encyclopaedia Africana Project is a pan-African initiative dedicated to documenting, preserving, and disseminating Africa’s history, culture, scientific achievements, technological innovations, and intellectual heritage. The Secretariat seeks a highly motivated professional with excellent research, writing, and editorial skills to support its research, publication, and knowledge management activities.

Job Purpose

•The Research Officer will support the Secretariat in conducting high-quality research, preparing technical reports and publications, coordinating editorial activities, managing research information, and contributing to the successful implementation of the Secretariat’s programmes and projects.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be required to

•Conduct literature reviews and undertake research on assigned thematic areas.

•Support editorial processes, including fact-checking, proofreading, copy-editing, and reference verification.

•Prepare research reports, policy briefs, concept notes, background papers, and technical documents.

•Assist in the development, editing, and review of publications, manuscripts, and other knowledge products.

•Assist in organising workshops, seminars, and stakeholder consultations.

•Prepare meeting briefs, minutes, presentations, and official correspondence.

•Contribute to grant proposals, project reports, and institutional publications.

•Perform any other research and administrative duties assigned by the Director.

Qualification Required & Experience

Applicants must possess

•A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline from an accredited tertiary institution.

•A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience including National Service in research, editorial work, publishing, communications, or a related field.

•Demonstrated experience in research writing and document preparation.

•Excellent research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

•Outstanding writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills.

•Strong knowledge of academic and professional writing standards.

•Excellent organisational and project coordination skills.

•High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

•Knowledge of reference management tools and research databases will be an added advantage.

•Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.

•Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

•High ethical standards, professionalism, and confidentiality.

•A strong interest in African history, culture, education, science, technology, and innovation.
